Description

This piece is an ancient mammal tooth, presented here on a black background. The object, typical of curiosity cabinet specimens, is distinguished by its massive shape and three clearly visible roots, characteristic of upper molars in many mammals. The crown has a white to beige, slightly shiny surface, with deep grooves and a visible crack on top. The base and roots display a beige to yellowish hue, marked by a natural patina and traces of wear related to its age.

The texture of the tooth alternates between a smooth surface on the crown and a more porous appearance on the roots, highlighting the effect of time and the conservation context. No recent polishing or decorative additions are observable, confirming the raw presentation, true to the taxidermic and naturalistic tradition. The natural coloring, with its ivory and ocher nuances, emphasizes the authenticity of this piece.

In the photo, the tooth is placed next to a yellow measuring tape, which allows for a visual appreciation of its elongated proportions and volume without providing numerical dimensions. The absence of a mount or base is notable: it is a free specimen, ideal for display in a showcase or on a cabinet of curiosities tray. No markings, inscriptions, or labels are visible on the object.

The crown's surface has a longitudinal crack, typical of fossilized or ancient teeth, as well as areas of wear on the edges. The roots are intact, not fractured, with some natural irregularities. The whole presents a homogeneous patina, testifying to its authenticity and age.

This specimen is representative of taxidermy and natural curiosity objects, often sought after for their decorative and educational aspect. The anatomical structure is well preserved, allowing for detailed observation of the different parts of a mammal's tooth.
