Old ink drawing, signed caricatures, original vintage artwork

Description
This old ink drawing features three male caricatures, executed on a large sheet of cream paper with a slightly yellowed appearance. The work stands out for its expressive graphic style, typical of press or salon caricature from the early to mid-20th century. The lines are drawn in black ink, with quick strokes and some flat areas to mark the clothing. Two of the characters are depicted in bust, in profile or three-quarters, while the third, in the upper right, is standing, wearing a lawyer's robe and holding a document in his hand.
On the left side, we see a corpulent, bald character, dressed in a dark toga, holding a file in front of him. In the upper right, a moustached man, clearly reading, adopts a dynamic posture. In the lower right, the third, more angular face is drawn in profile, with a marked expression. Next to each figure, handwritten annotations partially identify or describe the characters, although some are only partially legible. We can notably distinguish the mentions "Barbe juge d’instruction" (Barbe investigating judge) and "clerc (val)" (clerk (val)).
The overall condition of the sheet shows an authentic patina: the sheet is slightly warped, with dog-eared corners and a visible tear at the top. The paper's texture reveals a fine grain, typical of drawing supports used for sketches or preparatory studies. The work is unframed.
The scene depicted evokes a judicial or administrative context, reinforced by the characters' posture and costume. The style is reminiscent of humorous drawings or judicial chronicle sketches, often used to illustrate articles or satirical publications. The signature, though discreet, is present near one of the characters, attesting to the authenticity of the work.
This drawing, by its style and technique, is part of the tradition of French caricatures of the 20th century, where the emphasis is placed on the expression of faces and the attitude of the subjects. The clothing details, the play of proportions, and the spontaneity of the line give the whole a great visual vivacity.
