Description

This period administrative document, dated October 1, 1935, comes from the Ponts et Chaussées (Bridges and Roads) department of Bouches-du-Rhône in Marseille. It is an official sub-divisional report concerning the temporary occupation of the public maritime domain, with a handwritten mention of a request for renewal of authorization for the "Société anonyme des chantiers" (inscription visible on the first page). The document is printed on pre-filled letterhead paper, typical of French administration in the early 20th century, and features numerous handwritten ink annotations on the visible side.

The page shows a neat layout, with classic administrative typography and fields filled in by hand. The mentions "Littoral" (Coast) and "Anse du Pharo" (Pharo Cove) are clearly legible, situating the geographical context in Marseille. There is also a handwritten serial number at the top left ("1086"), a "209" reference on the side, as well as several signatures and notes added in the margins and on the main page.

The overall condition of the document is consistent with administrative use of the time: there is a slight patination of the paper, traces of handling on the edges, and some creases or wear, with no apparent tears on the visible side. The whole exudes an authentic aesthetic, characteristic of French administrative archives from the 1930s.

This type of report constitutes a valuable source for local history, research on land use planning, or documentation of administrative procedures related to the public maritime domain in Marseille. The richness of the handwritten annotations and the precise dating enhance the documentary and patrimonial value of this piece.

Did you know? The Ponts et Chaussées (Bridges and Roads) services, created in France in the 18th century, were responsible for the management and maintenance of public infrastructure, including roads, ports, and maritime structures. Sub-divisional reports, like this one, were essential for monitoring authorizations to occupy the public domain, particularly in strategic port areas like the Marseille coastline.
