Description
This vintage document, shown in the photo, is an old administrative sheet dated October 14, 1949, issued by the University of Lille. It is an official schedule of written examinations for the October-November 1949 Bachelor's degree session. The paper has a slightly yellowed ivory tint, characteristic of archival papers from the first half of the 20th century. The printing is in black typed characters, typical of administrative documents of the era, with a structured layout and several underlines to prioritize information.
The upper part of the document shows a circular blue stamp "UNIVERSITÉ DE LILLE - FACULTÉ DES LETTRES - LE DOYEN" (UNIVERSITY OF LILLE - FACULTY OF LETTERS - THE DEAN), as well as a typed date "14 OCT 1949" at the top right. The main title, "Licence - Session d’Octobre-novembre 1949 - Épreuves écrites" (Bachelor's Degree - October-November 1949 Session - Written Examinations), is clearly legible and centered. Below this title are the instructions for convocation and discipline for candidates, written in a precise administrative style.
The body of the document details the organization of the written examinations over two days, mentioning the subjects (classical literary studies, philosophy, geography, foreign languages, psychology, art history, ethnology, etc.), the assigned rooms, the names of the invigilators, as well as the number of candidates and admitted students for each discipline. The presentation is neat, with distinct typographic markers (underlines, parentheses, alignments). All this information is visible on the presented side.
The paper shows a slight curvature on the upper left edge, with no apparent tears or handwritten annotations. No reverse side is visible in the photo. The entire typed text is well preserved, with no major stains or alteration of the support visible on this side.
This document is an administrative witness to post-war higher education, interesting for the history of education, university sociology, or vintage documentation. It is a typical example of a university competition or examination schedule from the 1940s.
