Vintage embroidered Gerbier de Jonc patch, old Ardèche souvenir patch
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Old embroidered patch, presented in its original blister pack, intended as a tourist souvenir. This patch features "Gerbier de Jonc" at the top, on a red background, and "Source de la Loire 1551 m" just below, all in clearly visible yellow letters. The finely embroidered central motif depicts the famous Mount Gerbier de Jonc in green, with a landscape in the background. A stylized coat of arms, in blue and yellow, adorns the lower part of the patch, adding a heraldic touch to the whole. The patch is bordered by a bright yellow trim on a red background, typical of tourist patches from the 1970s to 1980s.
The original cardboard backing, still present, mentions "ÉCUSSON BRODE SOUVENIR" (EMBROIDERED SOUVENIR PATCH) at the top, followed by multilingual translations, which attests to its tourist purpose. At the bottom right of the cardboard, you can see the address "Dupuy Canus Lourdes France", a recognized manufacturer for this type of textile souvenir. The whole is still in its translucent plastic bag, suggesting it has never been used.
The colors are particularly vibrant: intense green for the mount, yellow and blue for the coat of arms, red for the background and border, and white for the secondary inscriptions. The ensemble has a retro look, typical of textile souvenirs from past decades. No major defects are visible on the front, the patch appears to be in excellent visual condition, with no apparent signs of wear.
The embroidered motif is precise, with clear details on the relief of the mount and the patterns of the coat of arms. This type of patch was traditionally sewn onto backpacks, jackets, or shirts during trips or hikes, particularly in emblematic regions like Ardèche where Mount Gerbier de Jonc is located.
