Description

This first-day cover (FDC) philatelic envelope features the Château de Val, inscribed on the visible side with the words "CHATEAU DE VAL (XVIème Siècle)". The full-color visual presents a detailed illustration of the château overlooking a body of water, in a style typical of 20th-century French commemorative issues. The envelope is protected by a transparent plastic film.

In the upper right, a French stamp is affixed, also featuring the Château de Val. The stamp bears the words "CHATEAUX DE FRANCE", with a face value of 0.30 F, against a blue-green and brown background, illustrating the monument in perspective. Two round cancellation stamps "CHATEAU DE VAL – 15 NOV 66 – LANOBRE" are clearly affixed to the stamp and the envelope, certifying the exact date of the first day of issue: November 15, 1966.

The envelope bears the inscription "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION – HISTORIQUE – F.D.C." (FIRST DAY OF ISSUE – HISTORICAL – F.D.C.) in the upper left, indicating its specific status for stamp collectors and philately enthusiasts. The overall presentation of the item is neat, with the image of the château being clear and well-centered.

The visible part does not have any handwritten text or address. A white area is provided on the right, probably intended for the address, but it remains blank on this side. The envelope shows no visible inscriptions or signs of wear on the shown side, apart from a slight reflection due to the plastic protection.

The main colors observed are blue, green, and stone tones for the château illustration, associated with a white background for the envelope. The postmark and stamp are clearly visible, enhancing the philatelic interest of this piece. No major defects are to be reported on the visible side, apart from some reflections related to the packaging.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The envelope is protected by a plastic film. The visible side appears in good condition, with no major apparent defects.

Did you know? The Château de Val, located in Cantal, is a remarkable example of 16th-century architecture. This castle was partially submerged when the Bort-les-Orgues dam was filled, but it has been preserved and remains today one of the emblematic monuments of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
