Description

This First Day Cover, visible in the photo, is dedicated to the inauguration of the Channel Tunnel. On the front, there is a colorful illustration on the left depicting the symbolic union between France and the United Kingdom, with the flags of both countries and a stylized motif evoking the tunnel's path. Two official stamps of the French Republic are affixed on the right, each illustrating a stylized handshake between a blue rooster and an orange lion, national symbols of the two countries. The visible face values are 2.80 and 4.30 francs, with the mention "TUNNEL SOUS LA MANCHE RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE LA POSTE 1994".

The mention "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION" (First Day of Issue) is clearly legible at the top right, accompanied by the "FIRST DAY COVER" postmark and the specific cancellation "TUNNEL SOUS LA MANCHE CALAIS 62", marking the date of the first day of circulation. The envelope also features the title "LE TUNNEL SOUS LA MANCHE" printed at the top left, as well as the publisher's mention "Editions J.F. – Courbevoie" at the bottom left.

The overall design is typical of the early 1990s, with bold colors and stylized geometric patterns. The ensemble has a retro look sought after by philately and postal history enthusiasts, while offering strong symbolic significance linked to the historic event of the tunnel's construction.

The two stamps are perfectly affixed, with a clear and centered cancellation. The envelope itself is of classic rectangular format, white background, with no visible defects on the presented side. No handwritten text or address is apparent on this side, which preserves all its philatelic interest for this item.

The general presentation, neat and clean, highlights the print quality and freshness of the item, ideal for display in a showcase or themed framing around Franco-British postal history.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The visible side is in very clean condition, with no marked stains or creases, with vibrant colors and perfectly legible cancellation.
