Description

This illustrated philatelic envelope features a detailed visual of a biplane, identified as a "Potez" thanks to the inscription partially visible on the front. The print, in a violet tone, highlights the historical aesthetic of early 20th-century aviation. The inscription "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION HISTORIQUE" (HISTORICAL FIRST DAY OF ISSUE) is clearly distinguishable, typical of so-called "first day" covers (FDCs), which are highly sought after in aeronautical thematic philately.

The round postmark, stamped in black ink, reads "EXPOSITION ANNÉE DU MUSÉE DE L’AIR 12-13 MAI 1962 AVIATION LÉGÈRE SPORTIVE PARIS" (MUSEUM OF AIR YEAR EXHIBITION MAY 12-13, 1962 SPORTING LIGHT AVIATION PARIS), confirming that this envelope was issued on the occasion of a major philatelic and aeronautical event in Paris. This postmark is accompanied by a stylized drawing of an airplane, reinforcing the aerial theme of the object.

A postage stamp is visible in the upper right, printed in a magenta hue. Although the detail of the design is partially obscured by the protective film, it harmoniously integrates with the overall graphic and commemorative design of the envelope. The face value "10F" is also hand-written on a small label, typical of marking in a philatelic fair or specialized sale.

The item is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve, which has preserved the sharpness of the prints and the cleanliness of the paper. No major defects are visible on the exposed side: the paper appears smooth, without pronounced creases or apparent stains. All visible inscriptions are clear, particularly the mention "AVION DE TOURISME HENRY POTEZ 1929" (TOURING AIRCRAFT HENRY POTEZ 1929) at the bottom left.

This type of envelope falls into the category of philatelic aviation souvenirs, particularly sought after for their documentary value and the quality of their illustration. Stamp and aerial document enthusiasts will recognize the value of a piece associated with a museum event such as that of the Musée de l'Air in Paris.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Protected by a plastic sleeve, visible side in very good overall condition, with no apparent major defects.

Did you know? The Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace (Museum of Air and Space), located in Le Bourget near Paris, is one of the oldest aeronautical museums in the world. "First Day Covers" (FDCs) commemorate the issuance of special stamps during major events and are often illustrated with original drawings representing iconic aircraft such as the Potez, a French aircraft manufacturer active since the 1920s.
