Exhibition philatelic cover Paris Air Museum glider 1962 canceled
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Illustrated philatelic envelope, visible under a transparent plastic sleeve, featuring a bordeaux-colored print of an Archdeacon glider and a cloudy landscape. The envelope has two perfectly legible round postmarks, stating "EXPOSITION AU MUSÉE DE L’AIR 121/5 1962 PARIS" and "NAVIGATION AÉROSPORTIVE". A red stamp, franked in the upper right corner, completes the visible side of the envelope.
The central motif highlights a historic glider, identified as the "Planeur Archdeacon," with the mention "1904" and the names "MM. Archdeacon et Capitaine Ferber à Berck." The careful monochrome printing gives the whole a sober appearance, typical of commemorative envelopes issued for philatelic or aeronautical events.
The envelope is protected under transparent plastic film, which helps preserve the surface condition while making the item perfectly visible on the front. The visible area shows no snags or noticeable wear; the print and stamp are clear, the postmarks well-defined and centered.
A small handwritten or printed insert (white label with "101") is positioned at the bottom right of the sleeve, likely for inventory or filing purposes. No visible defects are to be reported on the exposed side.
The typographic composition, the quality of the postmark, and the aeronautical theme suggest an edition produced for an exhibition or a philatelic event related to aviation in the early 1960s.
Condition
Used item sold as is. The visible side of the envelope is in very good condition, under plastic protection. The prints, stamp, and postmarks are clear and legible.
Did you know? Commemorative envelopes postmarked during philatelic exhibitions or major events, such as the Paris Air Museum Exhibition, are sought after for their unique postal mark and thematic illustration. The Archdeacon glider, depicted here, was one of the first French gliders tested in flight as early as 1904, contributing to the development of experimental aviation in France.
