Description

Illustrated commemorative envelope, visible under a transparent protective sleeve, issued for the 20th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Bayeux. This First Day Cover features an official circular stamp bearing the inscription "XXIe ANNIVERSAIRE DE LA LIBÉRATION - PREMIER JOUR - BAYEUX - 6-6-64" (21st ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION - FIRST DAY - BAYEUX - 6-6-64), as well as a black and white illustration depicting a historical scene of the Liberation, with moving figures and architectural background.

In the upper right corner, two French stamps are affixed, one predominantly blue, the other reddish-brown, both cancelled by the First Day postmark. The envelope bears the inscription "20e ANNIVERSAIRE DU DEBARQUEMENT – BAYEUX" (20th ANNIVERSARY OF THE LANDINGS – BAYEUX) at the bottom left, confirming its historical and commemorative theme. The mentions "PREMIER JOUR D'ÉMISSION" (FIRST DAY OF ISSUE) and "HISTORIQUE" (HISTORICAL) are printed on the upper part, next to a visible number (#329) and the publisher's logo (not precisely identified in the image).

The overall presentation is neat and sober, typical of philatelic First Day Covers issued for major events. The transparent sleeve protects the envelope and allows for clear observation of graphic and postal details. A small white square, handwritten "10F", is taped to the sleeve, likely an original price or inventory indication.

The main visible colors are the black and white of the illustration, the blue and brown of the stamps, and the grey of the postmark. The general condition appears good based on the visible side, with no major signs of wear or apparent tears on the photographed part.

Condition

Second-hand item sold as is, protected under a transparent plastic sleeve. The envelope and visible stamps appear in good visual condition, with no notable defects on the shown side. The condition of the back or other non-visible sides is not guaranteed.

Did you know? The Normandy Landings, commemorated every year, led to the issuance of several First Day Covers in France, including the Bayeux one in 1964 for the 20th anniversary. First Day Covers are prized for their specific postmark, which is only applied on the day of the first issue of the stamp concerned, making them unique in philatelic chronology.
