Description

This illustrated envelope is a "First Day Cover" (FDC) issued in Auch, France, dated January 22, 1966. The visible side features a color illustration depicting a local monument and a wooded landscape, topped with the clearly identifiable coat of arms of the city of Auch in the upper right corner of the illustration. The mention "AUCH" appears vertically on the left, while the word "BLASON" (coat of arms) is inscribed under the statue, confirming the heraldic theme of this issue.

The envelope is franked with a French stamp also bearing the coat of arms of Auch, matching the illustration. Two round postmarks "BLASON D’AUCH PREMIER JOUR 22 JANV. 66 32 AUCH" are clearly applied on the right side, attesting to its philatelic authenticity and precise issue date. A handwritten label indicates "10F" on the lower right part, visible under the transparent plastic protection covering the envelope.

The careful presentation, in a plastic sleeve, preserves the condition of the envelope and the stamp. The printing remains clear, the colors vibrant, and the design of the monument and the coat of arms are well-detailed. The red "Premier jour d’émission" (First Day of Issue) postmark is also visible in the lower left corner.

The visible side of the envelope shows no marked creases or apparent tears. The philatelic information is clearly legible, making it an excellent medium for the theme of French regional coats of arms, FDC issues, and thematic philately on local history.

Condition

Used item, sold as is, protected in a transparent plastic sleeve. The visible side is in good apparent condition, with illustrations, stamps, and postmarks well preserved.

Did you know? First Day Covers (FDC) are issued on the occasion of the official release of a new stamp. They are postmarked on the first day of circulation, often with a specific commemorative postmark for the city or theme represented, as here for Auch in 1966.
