European Water Charter 1989 Paris FDC Philately First Day Cover
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Philatelic envelope shown in the photo, a First Day Cover (FDC) type, dedicated to the "European Water Charter". This envelope features an exclusive embroidered stamp, highlighted by a colorful illustration depicting a waterfall and a natural landscape, with a stylized graphic motif in the center. The scene, framed by a golden border, emphasizes the theme of water in a European context.
On the right side, the Post Office cancellation is clearly legible: it indicates "CHARTE EUROPÉENNE DE L'EAU", "PREMIER JOUR" (First Day), "27 SEPT. 1989", "PARIS". This cancellation confirms the precise date of issue and the authenticity of the envelope as a commemorative philatelic item. Also visible are the words "PREMIER JOUR D'ÉMISSION" and its English translation "FIRST DAY COVER" at the bottom left, as well as a blue marking "FIRST DAY COVER - PREMIER JOUR" at the top right.
The envelope is presented in a transparent plastic sleeve, revealing a handwritten number "10F" on a small piece of glued paper, likely an old price indication. No other elements are visible on the photographed side.
The embroidered stamp and the illustration are in good visual condition, with vibrant colors. The plastic sleeve shows some reflections and marks, but the envelope inside appears well-preserved. No major defects are observable on the visible surface.
This First Day Cover (FDC) is typical of official philatelic issues, intended to commemorate an event or a theme of European interest, here the protection of water. The design and print quality are consistent with the late 1980s, with particular attention paid to graphic presentation and legibility of inscriptions.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The visible envelope appears to be in good overall condition, protected by a plastic sleeve. Minor signs of wear on the outer sleeve. No major apparent defects on the visible side of the envelope or the embroidered stamp.
Did you know? The "European Water Charter" was adopted by the Council of Europe in 1968 to promote water management and protection across the continent. First Day Covers are issued on the very first official release of a stamp or series, and their dated cancellation certifies the postal event.
