Description

This illustrated envelope, visible in the photo, is a "First Day Cover" dated September 21, 1974, as evidenced by the circular postmark from Bagnols-sur-Cèze (Gard). In the upper left corner, there is a red "Premier jour d’émission" (First Day of Issue) stamp, typical of French commemorative philatelic envelopes. The front features a French Republic stamp, predominantly red, adorned with an abstract motif evoking surrealism, accompanied by the inscription "SURRÉALISATEUR FRENAYE."

The stamp is clearly postmarked with the date 21-9-1974 and the city of Bagnols-sur-Cèze perfectly legible. To the right of the stamp, a second blind stamp (embossed impression) is visible, although the precise details of this mark are not entirely legible in the photo. The envelope has a printed shipping address: "SCOTEM, 11 Rue Neuve Popincourt, 75011," which was common for philatelic issues sent to individuals or specialized companies.

The envelope surface is white, with a black border visible on the upper edge. The entire item is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve, ensuring its general condition is preserved. No handwritten text appears on the visible side, indicating purely philatelic use.

The visual appearance shows a clean envelope, with no apparent stains or pronounced creases on the visible part. The stamp colors are vibrant, the postmark is well-applied, and the inscriptions are perfectly legible. The typed address and the small "6F" insert complete the set, typical of First Day Covers from that period.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The visible side is in good overall condition, under plastic protection. Minor traces related to handling or storage are possible.

Did you know? First Day Covers (FDCs) are issued to mark the official release of a new stamp. They are postmarked in a chosen city, often related to the stamp's theme, on the exact day of their issue. In France, these envelopes are highly sought after for their commemorative postmark and their documentary value in postal history.
