Description

This illustrated envelope is a "First Day Cover" (FDC) dedicated to the Normandy Landings. On the visible side, there is a color illustration depicting a paratrooper descending, surrounded by other paratroopers, against a backdrop of a blue sky and a stylized Norman landscape. The inscription "DÉBARQUEMENT EN NORMANDIE" (Normandy Landings) appears at the top of the illustration, with gilded details on the border.

In the bottom left corner of the envelope, the words "PREMIER JOUR D'ÉMISSION / FIRST DAY COVER" are clearly printed in blue. A special postage stamp adorns the upper right corner, also featuring a paratrooper, consistent with the envelope's theme. The postmark is perfectly legible: "PARACHUTISTES – PREMIER JOUR – PARIS" (PARATROOPERS – FIRST DAY – PARIS), dated May 31, 1969, with the paratrooper wings emblem.

The entire item is presented under transparent plastic protection. The overall appearance of the envelope shows good preservation of the illustrated side, with no visible signs of wear or tears on the exposed area. A small handwritten note indicates "12F" under the postmark, likely an old price or a catalog reference.

The graphics and typography are typical of the 1960s, with bold colors and a commemorative layout characteristic of official philatelic issues.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The visible side of the envelope and stamp appears in very good condition, with no notable defects on the illustrated area or the postmark.

Did you know? "First Day" (FDC) envelopes are issued to mark the first official circulation of a postage stamp. They are often illustrated and always bear a postmark dated on the day of issue. The Normandy Landings, commemorated here, took place on June 6, 1944, and remain a major event of World War II, frequently celebrated by philatelic issues in France.
