First Day Cover Normandy Landings 1984 D-Day Philately
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This First Day Cover commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, featuring a French commemorative stamp. Clearly visible on the front is the postal cancellation dated 18.6.1984 from Arromanches-les-Bains, an emblematic site of the 1944 Allied landings. The envelope bears the mention "Premier Jour d'émission" (First Day of Issue) in red print at the top left, typical of official editions for philately enthusiasts.
The affixed stamp depicts a historical scene of soldiers landing on the beach, against a green and pink background, with the inscription "40e ANNIVERSAIRE DU DEBARQUEMENT EN NORMANDIE" (40th ANNIVERSARY OF THE NORMANDY LANDINGS) and a face value of 0.40 F. The design, typical of French issues from the 1980s, highlights the memory of D-Day, a major event of World War II.
The envelope is presented in a transparent plastic sleeve, which helps preserve it. The visible surface of the envelope is clean, with no apparent stains or creases. An address is also printed at the bottom right: "11, Rue … 75011 PARIS" (the street name is partially obscured). A stamp or handwritten annotation "10F" appears next to the address, likely related to pricing or an internal reference.
On the upper right, a partially visible descriptive card appears, seemingly detailing the historical context of the Arromanches site and the stamp's issue. This type of support often accompanies philatelic mailings to enhance their commemorative aspect.

Used item, sold as seen in the photo. The plastic sleeve provides good protection; the stamp, postmark, and inscriptions are clear and well-preserved.
