Description

This illustrated envelope is a first day commemorative cover, dedicated to "World Theatre Day" and postmarked in Paris on March 24, 1962. The visible side features a polychrome illustration depicting a stylized theatre scene with architectural buildings in the background, a silhouette of a black figure in motion on a pale yellow esplanade, and a sky traversed by a few lines evoking clouds. The dominant colors are blue, yellow, burgundy red, and black, with clear printing and carefully executed graphic details.

In the upper left, the inscription "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION HISTORIQUE N° 412 F.D.C." is printed in red. The round black postmark bears the inscription "PREMIER JOUR JOURNÉE MONDIALE DU THÉÂTRE 24 MARS 1962 PARIS", which authenticates the philatelic nature of the cover. A French stamp, affixed to the right side of the envelope, depicts a building (a church or theatre, difficult to specify from this image) and bears the corresponding face value. Next to the stamp, the same first day postmark is applied, confirming the authenticity of the cancellation.
