Description

Illustrated First Day Cover (FDC) dedicated to French Polar Expeditions, visible inside a transparent protective plastic sleeve. The main illustration features a penguin in the foreground, next to a red tracked vehicle, against a backdrop of polar landscapes with ice floes, snow-capped mountains, and a blue sky. The decorative border frames the entire image, with the inscription "EXPÉDITIONS POLAIRES FRANÇAISES" (French Polar Expeditions) at the top and "ACTIVITÉ PERMANENTE" (Permanent Activity) at the bottom left, accompanied by "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION / FIRST DAY COVER" also at the bottom left. The envelope bears a matching stamp, also on the theme of polar expeditions, and a round postmark "PREMIER JOUR / 19 OCT. 68 / PARIS" with the inscription "EXPÉDITIONS POLAIRES FRANÇAISES."

The stamp, located at the top right, reiterates the polar theme with a depiction of an exploration vehicle and a glacial landscape. The postmark is clear and centered on the stamp, which enhances its value for philatelic purposes. A small handwritten number "125" appears on a label pasted at the bottom, likely a classification or inventory reference.

The plastic sleeve protects the envelope, whose visible surface features a colorful illustration, clear inscriptions, and well-preserved details. The dominant colors are blue, white, red, and black, evoking the polar and scientific world. No major defects are visible on the presented side, apart from slight traces on the protective plastic.

The envelope is typical of French First Day Issues (FDC) from the second half of the 20th century, with careful graphics and a scientific theme. This type of item is appreciated for its illustration quality, the clarity of the cancellation, and the coherence between the stamp, the postmark, and the main visual.
