Description
First Day Cover (FDC) envelope, illustrated, dedicated to the Foum El-Gherza Dam in Algeria, dated May 23, 1959, with a Biskra postmark. On the visible side, the envelope features a colorful illustration of the dam, stylized in blue, ochre yellow, and white, showing the hydraulic structure between two rocky walls, typical of 1950s graphics. The visual is complemented by the mention "PREMIER JOUR D'ÉMISSION F.D.C." (First Day of Issue F.D.C.) at the top, and the text "BARRAGE DE FOUM-EL-GHERZA" (Foum El-Gherza Dam) at the bottom left. A clear round postmark "PREMIER JOUR BARRAGE DE FOUM-EL-GHERZA 23 MAI 59 BISKRΑ" (First Day Foum El-Gherza Dam May 23 59 BISKRA) is affixed to the bottom right of the envelope, confirming the date and place of issue.
The envelope is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve. The colors of the illustration are fresh and well-contrasted, and the drawing is sharp, with no visible smudges. The whole is presented against a plain light wood background. The text and official mentions are perfectly legible on the front. There is also a handwritten inscription "69" and "10F" in pencil, likely a reference number or an old price, on the bottom right of the envelope, under the plastic sleeve.
This First Day Cover (FDC) envelope is a classic philatelic item, particularly valued for its commemorative illustrations and dated official postmarks. The item offered here highlights a significant event in the history of hydraulic infrastructures in Algeria, emphasized by the characteristic graphics of the period. No stamp is visible in the photographed area, but the postmark and illustration are clearly highlighted.
The visible surface shows no tears, pronounced folds, or major alterations; the plastic sleeve shows some reflections and slight handling marks, without affecting the integrity of the envelope itself. The item appears to be in good condition for a piece from this period, with a neat presentation.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. Traces of handling on the plastic sleeve. The envelope itself appears in good visual condition, with no major visible defects on the front.
