France 1973 Chatou first day cover 2.00 stamp SCOTEM philately
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This illustrated envelope is a first-day cover (FDC) from the French Republic, dated September 22, 1973, in Chatou, as indicated by the round postal cancellation on the stamp. The item is presented in a protective plastic sleeve, showing only the front face. A 2.00 franc French stamp can be seen, depicting a stylized artwork with dominant yellow, blue, orange, and red tones, with "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" at the top and "A. DERAIN" at the bottom of the stamp, suggesting a tribute to the artist André Derain.
To the right of the stamp, the envelope features a printed illustration evoking the city of Chatou, accompanied by partially legible text: "ses peints... ses... en toutes saisons sa Piscine" (its paintings... its... in all seasons its Swimming Pool). This lateral print is typical of commemorative philatelic envelopes issued for stamp releases, and here it appears in subdued tones, likely black or dark blue.
In the bottom right, an embossed stamp or gray print mentions "SCOTEM, 25, Rue Calmels, 25, 75018 PARIS," indicating the publisher or distributor of this envelope. A small handwritten label "20f" is also visible, likely an old display or sale price.
The item shows a clean presentation, with crisp edges and a generally smooth surface, although some traces or small marks are visible on the front, probably related to handling or the age of the document. The whole is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve, which helps preserve the general condition of the envelope and its prints.
This FDC envelope is typical of French philatelic productions from the early 1970s, both in its graphics and in the quality of the printing and the presence of a commemorative stamp canceled on the day of its release.
Condition
Used item sold as is. The visible side shows some superficial marks and a slight patina, with no apparent tears. Protective plastic sleeve included.
Did you know? First Day Covers (FDCs) are philatelic items created to mark the official release of a new stamp. The first day cancellation, here "Chatou 22-9 1973", certifies that the stamp was used on its issue date, which gives the entire item a special symbolic value for philatelists.
