First Day Cover Jean Mermoz Saint-Exupéry 1970 France philately FDC
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
French first day philatelic envelope, illustrated with a predominant blue and gray airmail stamp, issued in the likeness of Jean Mermoz and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. On the visible side, the stamp bears the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" and features portraits of the two famous aviators, accompanied by a stylized airplane in the background. Two circular postmarks are also present, both dated September 19, 1970, in Aubenton, with the inscription "PREMIER JOUR" (First Day) and the names "Jean Mermoz – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry" as a caption.
The first day postmark certifies the official issuance of this envelope when the stamp was released, a common practice in philately to mark the issue date. The item is presented in a transparent plastic sleeve, which protects the document while clearly displaying the front side.
In the lower right corner, a printed note indicates "SCCEM, 25, Rue Calmel, PARIS-18e" as well as a handwritten annotation "30 F". No other details or illustrations are visible on this side of the envelope.
The visible surface of the envelope has a uniform white tint, without additional ornamentation. The printing and postmarks are clear, with marked contrasts between the black of the cancellations and the shades of the stamp. No major defects, folds, or tears are apparent on the shown side, but the sleeve may create some reflections.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The visible side appears in good condition, with clearly legible prints and postmarks. The envelope is protected under plastic, which limits handling risks.
Did you know? "First Day Covers" (FDCs) are issued on the occasion of a stamp's official release. On September 19, 1970, the French Post Office paid tribute to two great figures of French aviation, Jean Mermoz and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, both pioneers of Aéropostale, by dedicating this commemorative stamp to them.
