This first-day cover commemorates the luge event at the XVI Olympic Winter Games in Albertville in 1992. On the visible side, a stylized drawing in vibrant colors depicts two athletes in full descent, against a background of multicoloured bands evoking speed. The inscription "LA LUGE" (THE LUGE) appears in the upper right, while "JEUX D’HIVER 1992 ALBERTVILLE (SAVOIE)" (1992 WINTER GAMES ALBERTVILLE (SAVOIE)) is printed in the lower left of the visual. The artwork is signed "G. SIMON" next to the illustration, and "Éditions F. Courtioux" is in blue below the visual.

The envelope bears a red 2.50 F "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION" (FIRST DAY OF ISSUE) stamp illustrated with a luger's silhouette, as well as two circular black official postmarks reading "XIVe JEUX OLYMPIQUES D’HIVER PREMIER JOUR 2 MARS 1991 MACOT-LA-PLAGNE" (XIV WINTER OLYMPIC GAMES FIRST DAY MARCH 2, 1991 MACOT-LA-PLAGNE). The words "FIRST DAY COVER" are also present in pink, in the upper left of the main postmark. This 1991 first-day cover celebrates the Olympic discipline of luge, a rare philatelic item associated with a major international sporting event.
