This illustrated envelope corresponds to a philatelic first-day issue dedicated to the bimillennium of the city of Lyon, dated October 5, 1957. On the visible side, there is a colorful illustration depicting an emblematic archaeological site of Lyon, accompanied by the city's coat of arms in red, blue, and gold, as well as the mention "LYON" in ornate letters. The mention "BIMILLENAIRE" (Bimillennium) also appears on the left side of the envelope.

The envelope bears a French postage stamp, canceled with a dark blue round postmark bearing the inscription "PREMIER JOUR / BIMILLENAIRE DE LYON / 5 OCT. 57 / LYON". Two identical postmarks are visible on the front. The presence of the mention "ENVELOPPE HISTORIQUE OFFICIELLE" (Official Historic Envelope) in red highlights the commemorative and official nature of this philatelic item.

The recipient, "Monsieur Ars[...] JOY", residing at "29 rue des Fontaines, Le Mans", is typewritten on the front. The whole is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve, visible in the photo, which preserves the envelope from dust and handling.
