Description

Illustrated First Day Cover, dedicated to Marc Sangnier, visible on the front. The color illustration depicts two young hikers with backpacks, walking towards a hostel in a rural landscape, with a traditional house in the background. The image highlights the theme of youth hostels, in connection with Marc Sangnier's involvement. The dominant colors are green, beige, and black, with a clear and neat print.

The envelope bears the inscription "PREMIER JOUR D'ÉMISSION HISTORIQUE N°852" (FIRST DAY OF HISTORICAL ISSUE N°852) printed in the upper right, as well as the text "MARC SANGNIER - Fondateur des Auberges de la Jeunesse" (MARC SANGNIER - Founder of Youth Hostels) on the left side. A round stamp "SALON DE L'ENFANCE PARIS" (CHILDHOOD EXHIBITION PARIS) is affixed to the front, associated with a First Day cancellation dated 15-3-61, characteristic of French FDC (First Day Cover) envelopes.

A blue stamp is affixed to the upper right, partially obscured by the postmark, but identifiable as being related to Marc Sangnier. The stamp's visual shows a profile portrait, typical of French commemorative issues of the period. The overall presentation remains very clean, with the envelope protected by a transparent plastic sleeve.

The bottom of the envelope features a green stamp and a handwritten number "105" on a label, an element often used in philatelic lot classifications. The entire item is presented on a light wood desk background, with only the front visible in the photo.

Condition

Used envelope in very good visual condition. The print is clear, with no visible stains or creases on the shown side. Protective plastic sleeve present. Slight signs of wear possible due to storage, but no major defects apparent on the visible area.

Did you know? Marc Sangnier (1873-1950) was a prominent figure in the Christian social movement and the founder of Youth Hostels in France. First Day Covers (FDCs) are particularly sought after for their commemorative postmark, which certifies the stamp's issue on the very day of its official release.
