Description
Illustrated First Day Cover (FDC) dedicated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The visual features a colored portrait of Mozart seated at a piano, with sheet music visible in the background. The illustration occupies the left side of the envelope, while the name "MOZART" is printed at the bottom left. The dominant colors are violet, beige, and touches of white and black, typical of artistic philatelic FDCs from the 1950s.
The upper left part bears the inscription "PREMIER JOUR D'ÉMISSION" and "FIRST DAY COVER" accompanied by the reference "N° 252". The round postal cancellation mark is clearly legible, bearing the inscription "PREMIER JOUR MOZART PARIS 9 NOV. 57", which precisely dates the issue of this commemorative envelope. A typewritten address is also visible at the bottom right of the visible side.
The stamp and cancellation mark are affixed to the front, with a clear impression and alignment characteristic of philatelic envelopes from this period. The official cancellation mark enhances the interest in thematic musical philately and French postal history. The surface of the envelope shows some visible creases under the plastic protection, without hindering the readability or appreciation of the illustration.
Condition
Used envelope, sold as is. Some creases and crumpling visible on the surface under plastic; illustration and cancellation marks remain clearly legible. Overall, it presents well for a postal item of this era.
Did you know? First Day Covers (FDCs) are issued to celebrate the official release of a stamp. They are postmarked on the day of issue, in this case November 9, 1957, in Paris for Mozart, making them a precise testament to postal and cultural history.
