Description

This illustrated envelope, shown in the photo, is a "First Day Cover" (often abbreviated FDC) issued to commemorate the historic twinning of Paris and Rome. On the upper part of the envelope, "PREMIER JOUR D'ÉMISSION" (FIRST DAY OF ISSUE) and the number 260 are clearly visible. The envelope is adorned with two emblematic motifs: at the top, a stylized representation of a ship, a traditional symbol of Paris, against a blue, white, and red tricolor circle; below, an illustration of the Capitoline she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus, a symbol of the founding of Rome, against a green background.

The envelope also features several printed inscriptions, including "JUMELAGE PARIS ROME" (PARIS ROME TWINNING) at the bottom.
