Description

This illustrated philatelic sheet, published by the CEF (Connaissance et Étude de la Philatélie), commemorates the “Bicentenary of Air and Space.” The visible side features a detailed graphic composition, integrating two canceled French postage stamps, each depicting a historical hot air balloon. The stamps display face values of 2.00 and 3.00 francs respectively, accompanied by a "First Day" cancellation dated March 13, 1983, in Le Bourget, specifically related to this major aeronautical event.

The central, colored illustration highlights a hot air balloon launch scene, inspired by the first ascensions of the 18th century. To the right, a richly decorated hot air balloon, adorned with golden motifs and floral details, flies over a stylized crowd dressed in period costumes. The signature "Gauthier" appears at the bottom right of the scene, indicating the artist of this philatelic composition.

The sheet also includes a printed historical text, tracing the major milestones of air and space conquest, from the pioneering experiments of the Montgolfier brothers to more contemporary achievements. The top of the sheet bears the title "BICENTENAIRE DE L’AIR ET DE L’ESPACE" in capitals, while the left side specifies the edition: "N° 675 du catalogue CEF," as well as the publisher's mention and printing characteristics.

The meticulous presentation on white cardboard, with side perforations for binder insertion, indicates a format designed for stamp and philatelic document collectors. The finish shows crisp colors and precise graphic details, with no major visible flaws on the presented side.

At the bottom left, the individual number "991" is printed, attesting to a limited and numbered edition specific to CEF publications. The side mentions also specify the quantities published on different media (paper, silk), without explicitly indicating the specific material of this sheet in the keywords.
