Description

This CEF philatelic souvenir sheet honors the "Centre des Hautes Études sur l'Afrique et l'Asie Modernes" (CHEAM), as indicated at the top of the sheet. The item features an elegant composition, typical of French commemorative philatelic issues. In the upper left part is a 3.20 franc stamp, illustrating a stylized map of Africa and Asia, accompanied by the inscription "CHEAM 1936-1986". A first-day cover postmark from Paris, dated June 14, 1986, is affixed next to the stamp, enhancing the philatelic interest of this sheet.

The central part of the sheet is adorned with a large illustration signed by René Dessirier, a decorator, depicting an artistic scene blending faces and motifs inspired by Africa and Asia. The dominant colors are black, red, beige, and gold, creating a striking contrast and a modern graphic aesthetic. The gold frame around the illustration adds a refined touch to the whole.

The lower part contains an explanatory text tracing the history and missions of CHEAM, as well as the role of Robert Montagne and Philippe Decraene in its development. The typography is clear and perfectly legible on the visible side, which accentuates the documentary nature of this sheet.

On the left margin, we observe the mention "N° 811 S1 - CEF catalogue CEF", as well as "N° 682 (1986)", attesting to the internal reference and the year of issue. An individual number "9462" is also visible in the bottom left, suggesting a unique numbering for this limited series. The perforations on the left side indicate the possibility of filing in a specific binder.

This CEF sheet is intended for thematic philately, particularly around academic institutions and Africa-Asia relations. Its general condition, according to the image, appears very good, without tears or visible stains on the presented face.
