Description
This CEF (Courrier d’Entreprise à la Française) sheet, visible in the photo, is dedicated to the theme "Europa – Discovery of the AIDS Virus." The presentation highlights a French 2.80 franc postage stamp, canceled with a "Strasbourg 30-4-94" first-day postmark, accompanied by a colorful visual inspired by contemporary art, depicting a graphic and abstract composition related to the HIV/AIDS theme.
The sheet is printed on white cardstock, framed by a brown border. The title "EUROPA" and the subtitle "Discovery of the AIDS Virus" appear at the top left, followed by a dense explanatory text tracing the major steps in the discovery of HIV by the Institut Pasteur team, notably citing Luc Montagnier, Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, and other major researchers.
In the upper left section, the stamp (face value 2.80 F) features a stylized illustration in blue, yellow, and red tones, and bears the mention "Europa." The round "Premier Jour" (First Day) postmark is clear and legible, dated April 30, 1994, in Strasbourg.
The sheet is presented in a transparent plastic sleeve perforated on the left, typical of CEF editions for optimal preservation. The mention "N° 1170 A du catalogue CEF" (CEF catalog No. 1170 A) is visible on the side strip, as well as the limited edition number "2658" printed at the bottom left.
The printed text, in French, details the scientific and historical context of the discovery of the AIDS virus, with precise references to dates, involved scientists, and major advancements. The presentation, typical of thematic philatelic sheets, highlights both the stamp, the postmark, and an artistic illustration, all in a horizontal rectangular format.
