Description
This CEF philatelic sheet honors Henri Mondor (1885-1962), a major figure in French medicine, through a meticulous and educational presentation. It is a commemorative sheet, published by CEF editions, illustrated and accompanied by a First Day postmarked stamp. The item features an elegant layout, with a wide white margin on the left, perforated for binder storage, typical of CEF sheets.
The central part of the sheet displays Henri Mondor's portrait, his name and dates, as well as a faithful reproduction of the stamp issued in his likeness. This stamp, postmarked with the "15 SAINT CERNEUF" First Day cachet, is integrated into an illustration signed by Marie Noëlle Goffin (artist engraver, mentioned below the illustration). To the right, a second black and white illustration depicts a drawing of a hand, related to Henri Mondor's profession as a surgeon.
The upper part of the sheet contains a detailed biographical text, printed in black on a white background, tracing Henri Mondor's life and work, particularly his role in the evolution of modern surgery and his literary contributions. The text is framed by a brown border, providing a classic finish to the whole.
In the bottom left, the sheet includes the limited edition mention and the copy number "14476," confirming that it is a numbered edition. On the edge, the reference "N° 526 of the CEF catalog" is clearly visible, as are the mentions relating to the publisher and the manufacturing method. The sheet has a smooth surface, with sharp printing and well-defined contrasts between textual and illustrated areas.
This CEF sheet is aimed at philately and postal history enthusiasts, as well as anyone interested in the history of medicine and the commemoration of great French figures. The item is ideal for enriching a thematic album or for display in a dedicated frame.
