Description

This illustrated philatelic sheet, published by the CEF (Cercle des Émissions Philatéliques de France), honors Louise Michel (1830-1905) in the "Hommage aux Femmes" (Tribute to Women) series. The visible side presents an artistic color composition with two stylized portraits of Louise Michel, created by graphic designer Huguette Sainson. The background reveals an allegorical female figure and a detailed biographical text extract on the right, printed in black on a white background.

The sheet also includes a matching postage stamp, illustrated with a portrait of Louise Michel, accompanied by the first-day cancellation "Hommage aux Femmes - Paris". The set is presented in a transparent plastic sleeve, inserted into a three-hole punched page, typical of CEF binders. At the top left, you will find the mention "N° 508B du catalogue CEF" and information regarding the limited edition print run.

The dominant colors are beige, ocher, blue, and red, with watercolor shades that highlight the facial features and hair. The sheet stands out for its meticulous finish and crisp printing, typical of CEF productions intended for demanding philatelists.

The left edge of the sleeve displays technical information, the CEF logo, and the print number "2501" visible at the bottom. No major defects are observable on the visible side: the sheet surface is flat, clean, and without apparent folds or stains.

This type of first-day cover (FDC) is sought after for the quality of its illustrations, the presence of the stamp and matching postmark, as well as for the historical and social theme celebrating great French female figures.

Condition

Used item, sold as is, as seen in the photo. The presented side is in very good visual condition, with no notable signs of wear.

Did you know? Louise Michel was an emblematic figure of the Paris Commune in 1871. Nicknamed "the Red Virgin," she distinguished herself by her commitment to social justice and women's rights, and left behind a major literary and political body of work.
