Description

This CEF philatelic sheet honors Jean Monnet, a major figure in European history, with a meticulous layout typical of prestige issues. The main part features a large color illustration of Jean Monnet's portrait, with a stylized map of Europe in the background. The inscription "100" and "EUROPE" appear on the left, while the name "Jean Monnet" and the mention "cent ecus" are integrated into the graphic composition, in shades of blue, gray, black, and red. A pattern of red stars on a blue background adorns the right side, recalling the European symbol.

On the right side of the sheet, an illustrated stamp featuring Jean Monnet is visible, accompanied by a First Day cancellation bearing the mention "Cognac" (Jean Monnet's hometown). Above it, the name "JEAN MONNET" is printed in capitals, and the area in the upper right presents a synthetic biography of the character, as well as a legible artist's signature: Marie-Noëlle Goffin, professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lille, who is responsible for the illustration of the sheet and the creation of the stamp.

The sheet is inserted into an original plastic sleeve, marked "CEF" on the left edge. The numbering "2807" is clearly visible at the bottom left, indicating a limited edition. The overall presentation is elegant, with an airy layout, typical of philatelic commemorative sheets.

The text printed below the illustration retraces the major stages of Jean Monnet's life, his role in European construction, his actions during the First and Second World Wars, and his involvement in the creation of the ECSC. The printing is sharp, the characters are legible, and the graphic quality of the sheet testifies to the particular care taken in its production.

The visible side shows no apparent defects: the sheet appears to be in good condition, with no visible creases or stains, and the original plastic sleeve seems well preserved. No other side is visible in the photo.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Visually presents a good overall appearance, with no major defects observable on the visible side.

Did you know? Jean Monnet (1888-1979), considered one of the "fathers of Europe," was behind the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) in 1951, the first concrete step in European construction. The "First Day Sheet" format is a French philatelic tradition that highlights stamps and their illustrations during their first official issue.
