CEF Leaflet Baseltiz Contemporary Art 1994 canceled stamp philately
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This CEF philatelic sheet celebrates contemporary art through a tribute to Georges Baselitz, a German painter born in 1938. The sheet features a carefully designed composition, with informative text printed in black on a white background on the left, framed by a black line. The text describes Baselitz's artistic journey and his influence in contemporary painting.
On the right side of the sheet is a color reproduction of a work by Baselitz titled "Die Mädchen Von Olmo," exhibited at the Centre Pompidou National Museum of Modern Art (as specified below the illustration). The dominant colors are yellow, blue, and black, in an expressive style characteristic of the artist, depicting two stylized human silhouettes.
In the bottom right, a French Post stamp, with a face value of 6.70 francs, features a colorful and abstract graphic motif, typical of contemporary art. The stamp bears the inscription "BASELITZ ALLEMAGNE" and the "1er JOUR 18.6.1994 PARIS" cancellation is clearly visible, attesting to its first-day issue status. The whole is presented on cardstock, with a matte finish and a limited numbered edition (No. 4773 visible in the bottom left).
The entire sheet displays an elegant, understated, and professional presentation, ideal for thematic philately or illustrating the history of modern art. All inscriptions are legible, and the layout highlights the explanatory text, the artwork reproduction, and the matching stamp.
Condition
Second-hand item sold as-is. The sheet is in good overall condition, with no apparent defects on the visible side. The prints, colors, and details are clear. The edition number and inscriptions are perfectly legible.
Did you know? Georges Baselitz is known for having initiated the practice of painting canvases "upside down," an approach that became emblematic of his career starting in the late 1960s. This visual inversion challenges habitual perceptions and questions the viewer's relationship to the image, a significant innovation in European contemporary art.
