Description
This CEF philatelic sheet commemorates the inauguration of the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie (City of Science and Industry) in Paris in 1986. On the visible side, there is an illustrated sheet, inserted in a three-hole pocket, typical of CEF presentations for philately. The main illustration, in the upper left, is the work of Jacques Gauthier (Grand Prix de Rome for engraving), offering a graphic composition with a striated effect, in dark shades punctuated by colorful touches. The whole evokes a contemporary interpretation of architecture or technology.
To the right, the sheet features a commemorative stamp "LA CITÉ DES SCIENCES ET DE L’INDUSTRIE" accompanied by a first-day cancellation dated March 14, 1986, in Paris. The circular postmark includes the name of the City and depicts the emblematic building. The printed text below the illustration details the history and purpose of the site, as well as Adrien Fainsilber's architectural approach, while highlighting the educational and scientific specificity of the institution.
The general presentation combines a neat layout, typical of philatelic sheets intended for stamp and postal history enthusiasts. On the left border, inscriptions specify the reference "CEF N° 889" and the mention "MODÈLE DÉPOSÉ" (Registered Design), as well as the contact details of the CEF commercial service. The number 2722 appears at the bottom left, indicating the numbering of the specimen in the produced series.
The whole has a clean visual appearance, with no major apparent defects on the visible side. The colors are well preserved, the text is legible, and the stamp is perfectly affixed. This sheet constitutes a philatelic testimony to the opening of the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, combining artistic illustration and historical interest.
