Description

This illustrated philatelic sheet, issued by the CEF, honors the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. The visible side features a modern and stylized graphic of the museum's facade, with the letters "M O" in red on an architectural background, a visual signature of designer Jean Widmer, whose name is mentioned below the illustration. The composition highlights geometric lines and a sober color palette, dominated by beige, black, and red, giving the whole a contemporary aesthetic typical of the late 20th century.

In the bottom right of the sheet, a franked "Musée d'Orsay" stamp (face value 3.70), on a dark blue background, is affixed and canceled with a round postmark dated "1er jour 1er Déc 1986 PARIS" (First Day Dec 1st 1986 PARIS). The cancellation and the presence of the first day stamp highlight the philatelic and commemorative aspect of this sheet, sought after for its meticulous presentation and original illustration.

The text printed to the right of the sheet traces the history and architecture of the Musée d'Orsay, as well as its transformation into a museum dedicated to 19th-century arts. The entire sheet is framed with a black line, with an elegant layout, typical of CEF editions. The reference "3074" appears in the bottom left of the visible support.

On the left edge of the sheet, technical mentions are printed, including the reference "Feuillet CEF N°8 MUSÉE D’ORSAY" (CEF Sheet N°8 MUSÉE D’ORSAY), as well as indications on the CEF catalog numbering and the distribution of the issue. The sheet is presented on a white background, with clear printing and well-preserved colors.

This CEF sheet is intended for philatelists and enthusiasts of modern illustrations related to French cultural heritage. It constitutes a souvenir document of the inauguration of the Musée d'Orsay, combining graphic quality and historical interest.
