Description

This CEF philatelic sheet honors the artist Paul Delvaux, a major figure in European surrealism. On the visible side, it presents an elegant composition centered around a reproduction of a detail from Paul Delvaux's painting "Le Rendez-vous d’Éphèse," accompanied by a French 5.00 franc stamp issued in 1992. The sheet bears the inscription "PAUL DELVAUX" in capital letters and includes a color photograph of the painting's detail, depicting a nude woman in front of a mirror, surrounded by architectural elements characteristic of the painter's universe.

The integrated stamp, predominantly gray and black, reuses the same pictorial detail and bears the inscription "PAUL DELVAUX BELGIQUE," as well as the face value "5,00 LA POSTE 1992." A first-day postmark "P. DELVAUX - 20-3-1992 - PARIS" is affixed to the stamp, certifying its official issue. The whole is presented on a white cardboard support, with an explanatory text printed on the right, retracing the artistic context and themes dear to Delvaux.

The sober and refined presentation highlights the printing quality of the sheet, with a fine border and a limited edition number visible at the bottom left ("5344"). On the left side edge, official mentions relating to the CEF (Connaissance, Etude, Philatélie) and SODOP editions are also printed.

The visible side shows no apparent signs of wear, stains, or creases. The colors are clear, the text perfectly legible, and the stamp well preserved. This is a sheet designed for philately, intended to highlight the link between art and postage stamps, and ideal for framing or preservation in a specialized album.

The main visual, as well as the contextual text, offer an immersion into the dreamlike and mysterious world of Paul Delvaux, emphasizing the place of dreams, women, and architecture in his work. The whole exudes the editorial quality characteristic of CEF editions.
