Description

This philatelic sheet, published by CEF (Cercle des Émissions de France), celebrates Belle-Île-en-Mer and the Vauban citadel. The visible side features an elegant composition including a color illustration depicting the famous citadel, a lively harbor, and boats moored in front of the ramparts. The illustration is signed by the painter Claude Haley, whose name appears in the lower left, accompanied by a note confirming the creation and signature of the visual by the artist.

The stamp integrated into the sheet features the same visual theme with the inscription "VAUBAN LA CITADELLE" and a face value of 2.50 francs. It is canceled with a round postmark dated "6 MAI 1989" in "LE PALAIS," which corresponds to the first day of issue. The cancellation specifies "BELLE-ILE-EN-MER – VAUBAN LA CITADELLE" and highlights the commemorative nature of the sheet.

To the right of the illustration, a printed text recounts the history of the Belle-Île-en-Mer citadel, its strategic role throughout the centuries, and the various phases of construction and renovation, particularly under the direction of Vauban. This text, in French, is perfectly legible and enhances the historical dimension of the sheet.

The sheet's mount features a simple and clean frame, inserted into a three-hole protective sleeve, typical of CEF editions. In the left margin, there is the mention "Éditions CEF - Nice," the reference "N° 724 du catalogue CEF," and the indication of the registered design.

The main colors are the golden beige of the ramparts, blue-gray for the sea and sky, and dark touches for the details of the boats. The printing is clear, with no apparent defects on the visible side. No folds, stains, or tears are observable on the exposed part of the sheet.
