Description

This CEF philatelic sheet is dedicated to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. It is an official sheet presented in a transparent sleeve, with the mention "CEF catalogue no. 725" on the left border. The visible side features a black and white graphic depicting athletes in motion, with the inscription "LOS ANGELES 1984" in red letters on the left and right. The red number "90" stands out on the main visual, commemorating the 90th year since the creation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In the central part, the sheet features a French commemorative stamp of 4.00 F, illustrating a stylized sporting scene in blue on a white background, accompanied by a "FDC" first-day postmark dated June 2, 1984, bearing the inscription "COMITE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIQUE 1894-1984 PARIS-LOS ANGELES."

The sheet also features an illustration signed by Jacques Gauthier, winner of the Grand Prix de Rome for Engraving, as specified below the image. The printed text at the bottom traces the history of the Olympic Games, from antiquity to the modern period, detailing the role of the IOC and the evolution of sporting and educational values.

The plastic sleeve shows the left edge, where the inscriptions specific to CEF editions appear, as well as the number 1568 at the bottom left. The whole is in very good apparent condition, with no visible signs of wear on the exposed side. The printing and layout are clear, with a marked contrast between the graphic elements and the explanatory text.

This type of philatelic sheet, also called a "philatelic souvenir" or "illustrated first-day cover," is sought after for its careful presentation and the presence of the official FDC postmark. It is an ideal piece to complete an Olympic theme or a selection focused on contemporary French philately.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The visible side of the sleeve and the sheet shows no major defects or apparent stains. The presentation remains clean and neat.

Did you know? The CEF (Courrier d’Entreprise à la Française) sheet is a French philatelic production that highlights major historical or cultural themes, accompanied by an illustrated first-day issue postmark. CEF issues are limited and referenced, making them prized items for thematic philately, especially during major events such as the Olympic Games.
