Description

This CEF philatelic sheet honors the European mountain elm ("Ulmus"), a tree species depicted here through a detailed color illustration and an explanatory text on the biology and history of the elm in Europe. The visible side of the sheet features a large watercolor illustration signed Huguette Sainson, showing elm leaves and a wooded landscape, accompanied by a printed text on the botanical characteristics and traditional uses of the elm.

On the left side, there is a commemorative postmark dated September 25, 1989, from Orléans, as well as a stamp on the theme of "Semaine des Arbres" (Tree Week), both related to the French Republic. The sheet is inserted into a perforated plastic sleeve, typical of CEF philatelic presentations, with a note in the margin: "Éditions CEF – This sheet is a registered design."

The border of the sheet is brown, harmoniously framing the text and illustration. The paper has a smooth, satin finish, characteristic of CEF sheets intended for stamp and philatelic document collectors. CEF catalog number 788 is indicated in the upper left of the sleeve, ensuring the authenticity of the series.

All visible content evokes both botany and philately, with a neat layout, typical of CEF issues. The main illustration, very colorful, combines green, brown, and purple tones, and highlights the elm leaf and a French rural landscape.

The sheet is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve with side perforations for binder storage. No defects, stains, or tears are visible on the exposed side.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Visible side in very good overall condition, with no apparent defects.

Did you know? "La Semaine des Arbres" (Tree Week) is a national operation launched in France in 1951 to raise public awareness of forest heritage preservation. CEF sheets are often issued in limited editions to commemorate these events, combining philately and nature education.
