Description
This illustrated philatelic sheet published by the CEF (Centrale d'Édition Philatélique) celebrates the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It features a carefully designed layout with a colorful illustration on the left, signed by Maurice Bourgeat, the stamp's graphic designer and artist. The scene evokes a Mediterranean coastal landscape, with a golden beach, typical vegetation (mimosas), calm sea, and mountains in the background, all under a stylized light reminiscent of the Southern sun.
The sheet includes a blue map of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in its upper right frame, detailing its departments. Accompanying text, in period typography, presents the region's geographical and cultural specificities. The title "PROVENCE-ALPES-COTE D'AZUR" is displayed in stylized capital letters, typical of philatelic editions from the late 20th century.
To the right of the illustration, the sheet incorporates a 1.00 franc postage stamp, featuring a stylized view of the region and the inscription "Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur". The stamp is cancelled with a round postmark "PROVENCE-ALPES-COTE D'AZUR 13 MARSEILLE", dated April 9, 1988 (visible on the postmark), which places its issuance at that time. The entire sheet is printed on smooth white paper, typical of CEF sheets, with side perforations for binder filing.
The lateral inscription specifies that it is CEF sheet n°986, limited edition of 33,800 copies (including 20,300 offset, 13,500 on silk), this one bearing the individual number 11881. The text at the bottom of the illustration attributes the graphic design to Maurice Bourgeat.
This sheet is a representative example of French philatelic productions from the 1980s, combining regional illustration, cartography, and a commemorative stamp.
