Description

This illustrated philatelic sheet, published by the CEF (Connaissance et Étude de la Philatélie), features a work by Sean Scully titled "Irish Landscape". The central part of the sheet presents an artistic reproduction of an Irish landscape: an isolated white house in the foreground, set on a green terrain, facing an intense blue body of water, all dominated by hills in shades of deep green. The overall piece is rendered in a contemporary graphic style, true to Scully's aesthetic.

The right side of the sheet features a French stamp of 6.70 francs, issued in 1996, depicting an abstract composition by Scully: alternating colored vertical bands on a yellow and black grid background. The sheet is enhanced with an explanatory text on Sean Scully's work, mentioning his biography and artistic approach. It also includes a mention of the illustrator Alain Royer, "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" in graphic arts (class 6).

On the left margin, the edition information is printed: "Imprimé sur les presses CEF", "La SODIP", "N° 1159 du catalogue CEF" as well as the mention "Tirage limité" (Limited edition) and the individual number "1016".

The sheet features a meticulous layout, with discreet framing and quality printing. No major defects are visible on the front presented (no chipping, creasing or tearing observed in the photo).

Did you know? Sean Scully is an Irish-American abstract painter born in 1945. He is known for his works composed of colored bands and has represented several countries at the Venice Biennale.
