AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This CEF philatelic sheet is dedicated to Simone Weil (1909-1943), a major figure in French philosophy and social activism. The visible side presents a meticulous composition, typical of CEF commemorative issues. On the left side is a medallion portrait of Simone Weil, printed in sepia tones, accompanied by a simple ornamental frame.
Below the portrait is a French postage stamp also illustrating Simone Weil, in a burgundy red hue. The stamp bears the inscription "1909-1943 Simone Weil" and "1.80 + 0.40 FRANCE", and it is cancelled with a first-day postmark, struck in Paris. The postmark bears the circular inscription "Simone Weil - 1909-1943 - Premier Jour - Paris" (First Day - Paris) and a stylized wheat stalk motif.
The right side of the sheet contains detailed biographical text about Simone Weil, printed in black on a white background, with her name and birth and death dates in the header. The text, written in French, highlights her intellectual journey, her commitment, and her influence.
The sheet is inserted into a perforated transparent plastic sleeve, typical of CEF philatelic presentations. In the left margin, several printed mentions can be found, including "N° 513 du catalogue CEF" (CEF Catalogue No. 513), "CEF Documents par...", as well as the limited edition run (33,800 copies, of which 20,500 were offered on silk, 13,300 on vellum). The individual number of the visible copy is 11944.
The dominant colors are white, black, sepia, and burgundy. The entire piece is in very good visual condition on the side shown, with no apparent defects, wear, or creases visible in the photo.

Since the 1960s, CEF has published first-day commemorative sheets (FDC, First Day Cover) which combine a stamp, a special cancellation, and a biographical or historical presentation, highly valued for thematic preservation and highlighting French postal heritage.
