Description

This CEF philatelic sheet commemorates the centenary of the International Lake Geneva Rescue Society, covering the period 1885-1985. The visible side features a central illustration by Jean Delpech, depicting emblematic elements of Lake Geneva: a stylized swan against a lake backdrop, mountains, an ibex, as well as the Swiss and French flags. The whole is completed by graphic motifs such as a smiling sun, a bunch of grapes, and regional coats of arms.

The sheet bears two distinct stamps: a blue Swiss stamp (face value 0.70) with a rescuer illustration, and a French stamp (face value 2.50) depicting an aquatic rescue scene. Both stamps are postmarked with commemorative centenary postmarks, visible on the upper right part of the sheet.

In the bottom left, a note specifies that the illustration is the work of Jean Delpech, first Grand Prix de Rome for engraving and creator of the issued stamp. Part of the text printed on the right traces the history and humanitarian importance of the Lake Geneva Rescue Society, in French.

The sheet is inserted in a transparent plastic sleeve, ensuring its protection. In the upper left, the CEF catalog reference number (No. 778) is visible, as well as the mention "Modèle déposé" (Registered Design) and reference 12734 in the bottom left on the backing.

This commemorative sheet is distinguished by its meticulous presentation, its colorful illustrations, and the presence of two postmarked stamps from two countries bordering Lake Geneva, making it a sought-after piece in thematic and commemorative philately.

Used item, sold as is. The sheet appears in very good general condition, protected in its original plastic sleeve. No major visible defects on the presented side. The stamps and postmarks are clear and well-positioned. The sleeve may show some superficial signs of wear.
