Description

This CEF philatelic souvenir sheet honors UNESCO and the Angkor archaeological site in Cambodia. It features two distinct postage stamps, one for 3.70 and the other for 2.80, both postmarked with the "Premier Jour UNESCO 23 octobre 1993 Paris" (First Day UNESCO October 23, 1993 Paris) cancellation. The sheet is illustrated with a black and white photograph of a carved face from Angkor, accompanied by the official UNESCO logo in the upper left corner.

The clean and structured layout highlights the UNESCO theme, with an explanatory text in French detailing the history of the Organization and the significance of world heritage. The text, printed in black on a white background, describes UNESCO's mission, the composition of its bodies, and the scope of international heritage protection.

The sheet includes two postage stamps, each illustrated with a detail from the Angkor site. The first stamp, on the left, is predominantly brown (face value 3.70), while the second, on the right, is predominantly blue (face value 2.80). Both are carefully canceled with the "Premier jour" (First Day) postmark specific to Paris, attesting to their philatelic authenticity.

The set is protected in a transparent plastic sleeve, typical of CEF presentations. A note on the side indicates: "Feuillet commémoratif CEF, tirage limité 1892" (CEF commemorative sheet, limited edition 1892), suggesting a numbering or edition limitation, which is common for this type of philatelic item.

The reverse and interior of the sheet are not visible in the image. No cosmetic defects, creases, or tears are apparent on the displayed side. The printing and colors are clear, and the presentation is sober and elegant, suitable for an institutional and heritage theme.

Condition

Used item sold as is. The visible side appears to be in good overall condition, with no major defects observed. Protective sleeve included.

Did you know? The Angkor site, illustrated on this sheet, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992. It is one of the largest complexes of religious monuments in the world, testifying to the grandeur of the Khmer Empire. The First Day cancellation applied upon the official release of a stamp makes it a prized item in thematic philately.
