Description

This philatelic sheet issued by the CEF honors the artist Francis Bacon. On the main part, a 5.00 franc French stamp depicting a work by Bacon is clearly visible, with a legible "Premier Jour" (First Day) postmark dated November 20, 1996, in Paris. Next to the stamp, a color reproduction of a part of the painting "Study for a Portrait of John Edwards" occupies a central place. The whole is framed with a golden border, giving it an elegant and refined presentation.

The sheet features a sober and professional layout, with the name "FRANCIS BACON" in silver capital letters at the top. The descriptive text, printed at the bottom of the composition, details Bacon's artistic approach and the expressive scope of his works. The classic and legible typography highlights the commemorative nature of the sheet.

On the left side of the sheet, the stamp is perfectly integrated into the composition. It features a distorted portrait, typical of Francis Bacon's style, and bears the inscription "FRANCE 5,00 FRANCIS BACON" as well as the legend "Étude pour le portrait de John Edwards" (Study for a Portrait of John Edwards). The "Premier Jour" postmark attests to the philatelic authenticity of this document.

The visible background of the sheet is white, without superfluous decoration, which makes both the stamp and the artistic reproduction stand out. The limited edition number "5082" is printed at the bottom left, indicating that it is a numbered copy, a common practice for CEF issues.

In the background, the original plastic sleeve, typical of CEF presentations, is partially visible, with printed information relating to the edition (mention of the CEF catalog, S.O.D.O.P., etc.). This sleeve protects the sheet and attests to its specialized philatelic provenance.

Condition

Used item sold as is. The visible sheet is clean, with no apparent folds or stains on the photographed side. The original plastic sleeve is partially visible and appears to be in good overall condition.
