Description
This philatelic sheet, published by CEF (Covers Enveloppes France), pays tribute to General Daumesnil, a 19th-century French military figure. On the visible side, a detailed and colorized illustration of the general in uniform occupies the central part, accompanied by his saber, against a backdrop evoking a fortress. To the right of the image, a biographical text traces the general's life and exploits, printed clearly and neatly. The top of the sheet bears the mention "Général Daumesnil" followed by a biographical text, while the bottom right corner features a matching stamp, reproducing the general's portrait, as well as a First Day cancellation dated September 12, 1987, in Périgueux.
On the left side are various publication details, including "N° 386 du catalogue CEF" and the limited edition of 24,500 copies, with several detailed language variations. The individual number of this sheet, "7931", is printed at the bottom left. The sheet's format is rectangular, with a two-leaf presentation connected by perforations, typical of CEF productions, facilitating archiving or display in a binder.
The whole is distinguished by the quality of the printing, the sharpness of the details, and the contrast between the colorized illustration and the black text. The matching stamp, accompanied by the specific "First Day" cancellation, enhances the item's value for enthusiasts of thematic philately or military history. The visible inscriptions are perfectly legible, both on the main text and on the stamp and cancellation.
The sheet presents a neat organization, with regular margins and a golden border around the main illustration. The paper's texture, visible at the periphery, suggests a satin cardboard backing, often used for this type of philatelic edition. No major defects are visible on the shown side; the surface appears clean, without stains, creases, or apparent tears.
This type of CEF philatelic sheet is an excellent choice to illustrate a historical or commemorative theme, thanks to its rich iconography and the presence of authentic postal elements (stamp, First Day cover, individual numbering).
