Description
This philatelic sheet published by the CEF (Connaissance et Étude de la Philatélie) honors General Daumesnil. On the visible side, it features a large color illustration depicting the general in uniform, leaning on a crutch, with a historical building reminiscent of the Château de Vincennes in the background. The portrait is enhanced by golden details on the epaulet and sleeve, as well as a characteristic martial posture.
The right side of the sheet contains a detailed biographical text about General Daumesnil, tracing his military career and feats of arms, particularly the defense of the Château de Vincennes. The inscription "GENERAL DAUMESNIL" appears at the top right, followed by text in condensed characters.
At the bottom right, there is a postage stamp bearing the general's effigy, accompanied by a first-day cancellation dated September 3, 1982, in Vincennes. The circular cancellation mentions "Général Daumesnil 1782-1832" and "Vieux-94 Vincennes". The stamp is illustrated with a drawn portrait, faithful to the French philatelic style of the 20th century.
The sheet features a golden border and perforations on the left, indicating a format designed for binders. On the left side strip, there is the mention "N° 368 du catalogue CEF", the limited edition mention of 24,500 copies, and the individual number "7917" printed at the bottom.
The visible surface shows no significant wear, stains, or creases. The printing of texts and illustrations is crisp, with well-preserved colors and marked contrasts on the central portrait. The whole evokes a commemorative sheet intended for thematic philately or album preservation.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The visible sheet is in good overall condition, with no apparent defects on the presented side. The printing remains clean and legible across the entire photographed surface.
Did you know? General Pierre Daumesnil is famous for the defense of the Château de Vincennes in 1814, where, having lost a leg, he reputedly defied the besiegers with the historic phrase: "I will surrender Vincennes when you give me back my leg!" His bravery made him an emblematic figure in French military history.
