Description

This CEF philatelic sheet highlights the European beech, an emblematic European forest species. In the central part of the sheet, a colorful illustration depicts a majestic beech tree, accompanied by three detailed drawings of leaves on the left. The main illustration, signed Huguette Sainson, also shows a village landscape in the background, with stylized characters, adding a lively dimension to the botanical scene.

On the right, the sheet features an explanatory text about the European beech, describing its characteristics, wood, uses, and importance in European forests. Two visible commemorative postmarks enhance the philatelic authenticity of this piece, with the mention "Nature & Grands Arbres" (Nature & Great Trees) and the date September 27, 1986, in Orléans, adding a historical and documentary dimension to the whole.

On the left side, the sheet mentions its affiliation with "Éditions CEF," pocket model, with the reference 785 from the CEF catalog and the individual number 1454, visible at the bottom left. The support has a white finish with a gold frame, typical of CEF sheets, and perforations on the left edge, suitable for filing in a philatelic binder.

The stamp illustrated in the center reproduces the beech motif, true to Huguette Sainson's graphic style, with a palette of natural greens and browns. The details of the foliage and trunk are highlighted by an ink drawing, emphasizing the tree's structure. The three stylized leaves on the left recall the botanical specificities of the European beech.

This sheet is aimed at enthusiasts of thematic philately, particularly those interested in botany, remarkable trees, and French commemorative issues. The whole is presented in good visual condition, with vivid colors and perfectly legible texts on the visible side.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The image shows a sheet in very good general condition, with no apparent defects on the exposed side. No creases, stains, or tears are visible in the photographed area. The colors and inscriptions remain clear and well-preserved.

Did you know? The beech (Fagus sylvatica), also called European beech, is one of the most widespread trees in European temperate forests. It can live up to 300 years, and its homogeneous and hard wood is sought after for making furniture, parquet flooring, and tools. CEF sheets are published in limited editions and are appreciated for their illustration quality and documentary value.
