Description

This CEF philatelic sheet honors Jean Effel, the famous French cartoonist and caricaturist, through an illustrated presentation on the theme of the post office. The visible side of the sheet features several humorous black and white drawings, enhanced by touches of color, including a commemorative illustrated postage stamp postmarked "Hommage à Jean Effel - Premier Jour Paris 15 Oct. 1988". The handwritten title "Jean Effel... et la poste" appears in the upper right, accompanied by hand-drawn motifs.

The sheet displays a composition typical of CEF (Courrier d'Entreprise Philatélique) editions, with a layout alternating illustrations and biographical text. The drawings depict various scenes related to the postal world, in Jean Effel's characteristic style, recognizable by his simple, expressive, and humorous lines. They include a woman at the counter, a postal complaint scene, as well as humorous motifs on the evolution of mail.

The stamp integrated into the sheet features a drawn portrait of Jean Effel, against a colorful background, with a First Day postmark. On the left edge, one can see the mention "Éditions CEF - Modèle Déposé", as well as indications of the limited edition of 20,350 copies, of which 13,500 are on silk (material not confirmed for this copy, as not explicitly specified in the image).

The central text traces Jean Effel's career, born François Lejeune, and highlights his involvement in humorous illustration, particularly for philately. The sheet is perforated on the left side, typical of CEF presentations, facilitating its insertion into a binder.

The whole presents a neat appearance, with a marked contrast between the black and white areas and the colored elements of the stamp, for optimal enhancement of the illustrations.
