Description

This illustrated philatelic sheet published by the CEF features a commemorative composition titled "LA FRANCE A SES MORTS" (France Has Its Dead). On the left side, a color reproduction of an artwork by Albert Decaris depicts a feminine allegory, wearing a red Phrygian cap adorned with a tricolor cockade, holding a laurel wreath and a black palm in each hand. To her right appears a symbolic, stylized flame against a bluish sky. The whole is framed by a thin black border.

The right side of the sheet contains a printed explanatory text, relating the national symbolism of war memorials and collective memory. Below the illustration, a matching stamp features the effigy of the same allegory, with the inscription "LA FRANCE A SES MORTS" and a face value of 1.80 francs.
