Description
This philatelic sheet published by the CEF (Connaissance et Étude de la Philatélie), model N°722 of the catalogue, honors the French Foreign Legion. On the visible side, a large color illustration by Jean Delpech (mentioned as Grand Prix de Rome for engraving) occupies the left part, depicting several legionnaires in traditional uniform, with white képi, rifles, and military accessories, on a stylized plant background. The name "LA LÉGION ÉTRANGÈRE" appears at the top right, followed by a detailed historical text tracing the history, role, and specific characteristics of this military corps.
At the bottom left of the sheet, a 3.10 franc postage stamp is affixed, illustrating a legionnaire, and canceled with a commemorative postmark bearing the inscription "Légion Étrangère Sidi-Bel-Abbès". The whole is printed on smooth cardboard, with a black border framing the composition. The sheet also bears a numbering at the bottom left (visible: 10714), indicating a limited edition.
On the left margin, the mention "CEF" is clearly visible, as well as the model reference (CEF catalogue N°722), which confirms the specialized edition for thematic philately enthusiasts. The sheet is perforated on the left, suggesting presentation in a binder or album. The text printed on the right part of the sheet retraces the history of the Foreign Legion, its missions, and its campaigns across the world, with clear and legible typography.
Jean Delpech's illustration, combined with the stamp issue, brings an artistic and historical dimension to this sheet, associating military aesthetics, philatelic tradition, and homage to an emblematic French institution. All elements (illustration, stamp, postmark, explanatory text) are harmoniously arranged, offering a carefully presented item, suitable for conservation or display.
The sheet is presented in a transparent plastic sleeve, showing the entire front side. No information on the reverse is visible.
